Broke in half, never started and idled well. Typical Chinese junk
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
It has never started and idled well. Plug is clean, gas is good. Cheap plastic tang holding shaft onto motor broke on one side. NOT recommended. Spend for a more highly rated machine.
was offered the light model instead and happy
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
The light model that I was offered maybe because I am in Ca. is a great piece of lawn and garden eqipment for occasional use. It has a small enging and I cut some weeds that normally a brush cutter would cut but this thing did it in two passes without making me tired. I really like the price and it beats buying this light model rather than spending a lot on a bigger one unless you need to cut much more often. This little one cut weeds that had half-inch shafts in them and if it got stuck it would kill the engine, better than the clutch sreaming until I got it turned off to unwind a piece of ivy wrapped around the shaft. I love the ease of starting poulan engines and although they are a bit underpowered have terrific value buy thier price and ease of use.
Hard to start hard to keep running
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I have been through 2 units in 1 year and both were horrible. Runs poorly and loses power easily. First one the rip cord jammed and snapped (returned for replacement). The second unit died inexplicably when metal shards came flying out of the housing. Nice work weed eater team!
Not the worst, not great either.

I bought this trimmer in an “Emergency” why my old trimmer broke on the day of a party where I needed my yard trimmed. I don’t normally buy things without researching, but this time I did. I’m not completely happy with my purchase, and I paid a lot more than it’s selling here on amazon.
First off out of the box, it’s not a bad looking thing, and it’s lightweight. It’s also a plus that it required little assembly (one small wingnut). It has a primer bulb to help it start, and is easy to pull over.
Now the problems. It wouldn’t stay running out of the box, no matter what the setting on the choke was. I finally got it running after leaving the throttle wide open all the time. Also, the string is very difficult to load, and it uses a lot of it. In addition, all of the moving parts are plastic (choke, throttle), which means I know that they are going to break at a bad time.
I finally went online to ebay and bought a carb adjustement tool (spline shaped). After moving both screws 1.5 turns out, it runs OK now. I wasn’t happy to spend an extra $15 on this thing, but it now makes it manageable.
Also, this thing doesn’t have a clutch, which means the head is spinning whenever the engine is running. It makes things very difficult, and slightly dangerous. Next time I am spending my money on a better machine.
Did Not Work Once
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
My wife purchased this model for me as a Father’s Day gift. I carefully read the owner’s manual and attempted to start the trimmer. It would not start. I tried again the next day and the next. In two weeks time, this piece of garbage would not start once. Customer service at Poulan was no help at all. I will not purchase any Poulan/Weedeater product again.
***READ THIS BEFORE YOU GIVE UP*** Product runs well after carburetor adjustments
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I thought this product was junk also but thanks to one of the previous reviewers I ordered a WALBRO CARBURETOR ADJUSTING TOOL off ebay for $15 (shipped) and then I used it to set both the high and low speed carburetor adjustments to 1.5 turns out and now the engine runs like its supposed to (can do most of my trimming in the Run setting at idle speed). The adjustment took me all of 1 minute. So before you give up on this product order the tool and make the carburetor adjustments.
Can Be Retro-fitted for 5 Star Trimming
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
Can Be Retro-fitted for 5 star Trimming.
This Trimmer was worthless before I retro-fitted it
with a Grass Gator(R) 8010 Replacement Trimmer Head Kit.
The Grass Gator (Load n’ Cut) Trimmer Head allowed
me to use 0.155 inch diameter Maxi-Edge trimming
line by Arnold — I cut 4 pcs of 6 inch long line.
The Maxi-Edge trimmer line only wore about 0.5 inches after one use
on some aggressive edging. I would have gone through at least
a spool of the original trimmer line.
The 0.155 Maxi-Edge timming line that I used is actually intended
for a line mower and is commercial grade.
It saved me time, money and a lot of frustration.
If this Weed Eater came with the retro-fited head it would be
one of the best on the market.
Out of the box this trimmer is a 1 or 2 star trimmer.
With the Retro-fit noted above — it becomes a 5 star trimmer.
So I rated it at 3 stars because I had to do a $15 retro-fit to
bring it up to 5 star level.
Difficult to keep running
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
This trimmer has been a problem from the time I bought it. I wish I still had the receipt. I thought it might need to break in after 2 or 3 uses. I have used it about 6 times. Today I gave up halfway through my lawn. It constantly stops especially when trying to give it gas. Full choke, half choke, run. It doesn’t matter. The Weed Eater is my most regrettable yard purchase ever.
very hard to start.
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
This is the lightest weedeater I’ve ever used. Also, it is the hardest to start weedeater I’ve ever used.
If you are buying this because of the light weight, i.e. you have a problem handling the “heft” of other trimmers, I think you should consider buying another trimmer. If physical strength is the problem, you will have much more of a problem continually pulling the cord and getting this thing started than simply holding it to use. For me, getting it started is major irritant, but the light weight is very handy on a steep hillside I have to cut. Therefore, the tradeoff is OK for me. I don’t think that is the case for most people.
Needs To Be Adjusted.
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
My son-in law bought a new one of these. The only way I could use it was on half choke. Thanks To CA you can not adjust the carb. without a special tool. There are two adjustments on the carb. Low speed, & High speed. Take a 1/4″ dowel pin and drill a hole in the end of it and push it down over the spline adjustment screws, or buy you a tool on ebay, for poulan or weedeater. It took about a 1/4 turn on one of the screws to adjust. It now runs great.
Great deal for a gas powered string trimmer
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I purchased this string trimmer, not knowing what the advantage or disadvantage of the curved shaft would be. The machine itself operates smoothly, is intuitive, etc. My only complaints are the curved shaft is cumbersome (I find), Also I am 6’3″ and I find it is a bit short for me, and I have to hunch over to use it effectively. But all this said, for the price there is no better deal.
Out Of Box Did Not Work

Cord… Unable to pull, Amazon will not take back because of gas/mail, will cost $30 to fix. Will now buy from Wal-Mart or Sears. Will now buy electronics at Best Buy and books from Barnes and Noble. Wasted at Amazon$80!
I was loyal they were not. Took my money and gave me a defective, nonreturnable item! Not Happy!
poor quality merchandise

I just bought one of these 3 days ago and have returned it already. They are very loud and mine did not allow you to release the throttle without it dying. You are supposed to be able to let up on the throttle after it has warmed up, but for how long? All day. If you let up even a little it dies right now. No matter how you set the choke, this happens. Not worth the money.
Don’t ever buy this, it won’t last more than 5 minutes on running
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
This machine sucks, there must be something wrong in the design. It is reaally tough to start, and it won’t last more than 5 mins after start. You are wasting your money and enerty to restart this small engine every 3-5 minutes, and take about 3 minutes to get it running.
Weed Eater 17-Inch 25cc Gas-Powered String Trimmer, Curved Shaft #XT260
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
It began, out of the box, fine; however, as another reviewer wrote, it stalls and is difficult to restart.
Piece of junk!!

Don’t waste your your money. This line trimmer lasted me less than 1 year.
Hard to start and stalls out once running.
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
First time I bought a curved shaft trimmer, my old one crapped out on me so I needed a new one and saw this one on sale for around 66 dollars so I bought it. When I got it it already came assembled so all I had to do was put in the 2 cycle gas. After that I tried to start the trimmer as instructed, it took around 2-3 minutes to get it started, and once it was started and I started using it, the trimmer kept stalling on me. It must of stalled around 9-10 times trying to trim the house and the fence. Even though it stalled that many times, it still did the job it was intended to do, don’t know if I received a bad weed eater or not, but I wasn’t going to order the same model or brand again, I would try a brand I was accustomed too. After I was finished, I packed the machine up and sent in back to Amazon, and I orderd a more expensive one, and I’m glad I did.
WEEDEATER
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
I THOUGHT I HAD ORDERED A ONE STRING,TWO SPOOL ,8 POUND WEED EATER.I RECIEVED A TWO STRING,ONE SPOOL,ONE. IT DOESN’T DO AS GOOD A JOB WEED EATING AS MY OLD ONE,AND SEEMS HEAVIER AND LONGER. I LOVED MY OLD ONE,IT HAD LASTED ME FOR I0 YEARS.I WAS DISSAPOINTED WHEN I GOT MY NEW ONE,BUT I KEPT IT,BECAUSE I NEEDED IT RIGHT THEN.
This is a great string trimmer!!!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I had a HUGE need for this, and was contemplating just going to Sears, and getting it there. But if you’ve read my review on the Poulan lawn mower, and my previous experiences with Sears, I opted to wait on free shipping!!
I had to get caught up on my weed eating, since our old one died, and man this one didn’t let me down!! Just mixed up some fuel, and gave it a few pulls, and I was weedeating!! I managed to get the entire yard done, and proceeded to trim the walkway, and ran out of string. Guess I should’ve bought some with the order! Oh well, live and learn!!!
Since then, fall has arrived, and the yard is hibernating, so I guess I’ll be pulling it out in April. Don’t let the price/size deter you. This is a great string trimmer, pretty powerful!!!
hard to keep running

I followed the starting and running steps and it won’t stay running I will have someone take a look at it. I would not buy again .
Pretty Good
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
This trimmer works well. My only complaint is that it seems to use up the string very fast. I have only used it three times and the first two times used up a full reel each time. It may just be because this is the first gas powered trimmer I have used and just needed to get used to it because the last time went better.
Non ergonomic string Trimmer
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
You would think as long as Weed Eater has been in business they would be smart enough to design a trimmer that the engine doesn’t try to go through your forearm when holding the machine in the operating position. It seems to have plenty of power but very little speed variation. It is basically off or full speed. I really would like to return this but don’t want to go through the trouble just yet, maybe I can make it work by leaning over level with the yard while I trim.
happy with purchase
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I had been looking to purchase a new weedeater, and so knew a good price when I saw it. Getting free shipping from Amazon on this made the choice easier. I wanted a light-weight, easy to operate weedeater and that is exactly what I got. The price was right and the free shipping made the purchase on-line less expensive than going to a big-box store. It arrived quickly as well. I have used the weedeater for approximately 15 hours or so of run time and it starts easly, is light weight and easy to handle, and has plenty of power for my needs. My wife even finds it easily manageble and not to heavy for her to use.
Lightweight Weed Eater
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
Started fairly easily, though it does take longer than expected to warm up so the choke can be shut off. Like the light weight of the weed eater — that’s the main reason I bought it. Would prefer a single-line unit, as the double-line is more difficult to “fix” when it’s necessary to remove the line head and refeed the line. Also, this model seems to quit rather easily if the lines are too long (rather than the lines being cut off by the protection guard), or if the weeds being cut are thick. Have to run it at quite high speeds just to keep it running. I do like the unit, though not as much as I had expected as I’ve had great experiences with Weed Eater equipment in the past. Would I buy it again? Not if I could find a comparitively light weight unit that had only one line, which I couldn’t.
Pull Cord
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
Bought Weedeater brand new from Sears in February, 2006. Used 2 times without a problem (actually like better than the Craftsman trimmers i had before.)During the 3rd use, after about 10 minutes i stopped the trimmer to remove some small branches in the area where i was to trim next. After restarting trimmer ( which started on first try) i noticed the pull cord did not rewind into the trimmer. Have not been able to start trimmer since . I believe problem is the Starter Sping for rewinding the pull cord rope, which is not covered in the warrenty.
Easy Starting Lightweight Weed Trimmer
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I was satisfied with this product after using it. No problem at all starting. It has good motor response and is easy to control with a well designed trigger for accelerating. The line feed worked OK, except motor needs to be going fast for line to cut itself. It seemed a little hesitant before warming up, but further usage will help to learn when to adjust the choke. Best part is its light weight, since extended use will not cause arm fatigue. Should be adequate to use for most housholds.
SMART BUY~!!!!

I have an ECHO Heavy Duty Professional level Gas Trimmer. I also wanted to give this a try since ECHO was heavy to carry around the house all the time. This one works as good as Professional ECHO Professional Line for ONE THIRD of its cost~!!! I have an ECHO Heavy Duty Professional Gas Trimmer. Since it is heavy to carry around the property, I also wanted to have one that is light. Well, this one works as good as ECHO Professional Line for ONE THIRD of its cost ~!!! and so light, much easier to work with it. If I knew of this product when I bought ECHO Gas Trimmer, I would have bought this one instead. Well, its not too late to return my ECHO. I am VERY impressed with it. SMART BUY~!!!
my Weed Eater XT260 would not run smooth, hard to start, would not idle at all since brand new.
following instructions from comment #6 above, i drilled a dowel to fit over the 2 splined shaft screws to 1.5 turns out (turn them in all the way, then back them out 1.5 turns. I’m pretty sure the engine wasn’t getting enough air.
Now it runs PERFECT!!! idles nicely, power ramps up and can be used at all throttle positions…what a difference!
