I will not buy any products by Poulan or Weed Eater again.
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I bought this trimmer from Walmart. The only brands they had available were Poulan, Weed Eater, or Black & Decker. I saw on Amazon that there are many trimmers by the brand Weed Eater being sold refurbished, so I decided to avoid that brand. I took it out of its box, read the manual and turned it on. It started very easily, but it wouldn’t Idle (the router kept spinning at high speed). I fiddled with the screw that adjusts the carburator with out success, then I concluded that it’s probably a compression problem. The starting cord hangs by about an inch, there’s no tension!
This is extremely frustating and customer service is not making it any easier. After some online searches, I discovered that the Poulan and Weed Eater brands are owned by the same company. I would advice everyone to instead buy a Hitachi or Black & Decker.
Great experience!

Fast delivery. Though I read some negative reviews, I appear to have received a good one. It is a little heavier than my last trimmer (Ryobi), but I need the exercise. Rewinding the spool is much easier than the old one. Feeds better, starts easily. Very satisfied for the price.
Great

I have had it 2 years now and never had a single problem. I has been a great weed eater.
I love it

I just received my new trimmer and I couldn’t be happier. Took the briefest of time to put together, started right up, ran like a champ. Hope it lasts forever.
Very please with my purchase!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I really had only one worry about my purchase, which was that my Ryobi attachments would not work with it. I am happy to say that all of my attachments worked fine! So yes, you can use Ryobi attachments with this trimmer. I suspect that they are all manufactured by the same company anyways. Mine was a little difficult to crank at first, but I guess there was some air in the fuel line. Once I got it cranked, it ran smoothly and later in the day it cranked on the second pull. It is only an inch shorter than my Ryobi 30cc. I’m 6’3″ and I was fine with the length. Not much assembly to it. I haven’t played with the spool yet. Unlike my Ryobi which has a screw knob at the bottom, this one appears to snap together. I’ll have to try it out tonight and see which one I like the best. I may end up using my old trimmer attachment. Great value. I highly recommend.
Awesome

I have read a lot of reviews about the bogging down problem people are having. My dad has had one for a few years with no problems and I purchased one today. We get our stuff from a shop that sells lawn equipment which turns out is very important. When I bought it he put gas in it and fired up and had to do some adjustments to the carb right away. he explained that this had to be done because all the equipment that is shipped has to meet emmission requirements so they are tuned like crap from the factory. He said ” I dont know what people do that buy these things at big box stores, they must run like crap”. So theres your answer reguarding this issue. A special tool is needed for this also. I also am running Amsoil Sabre 2 cycle oil at 100:1. You can do this out of the box because they are required to be run at factory for emmission purposes with 40:1 so it will be fine. Runs awesome with the amsoil. Just screams!
Very powerful – great value

Poulan Weed Eater
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
Product arrived at the time scheduled. The Weed Eater arrived in new condition with no damages. I originally had a small problem with starting the product until I found the correct mixture of Oil and Gasoline. An easy solution to this problem is to have a separate gallon container for the gasoline and add the full bottle of Oil included with the Poulan Product and then there is no guessing as to the correct mixture of oil with the gasoline. Product ran very well once I purchased a gallon container and just added the oil. I was concerned with the size of the engine, seeing larger 33cc versions in the store, but after using the product am satisfied with its performance.
Excellent trimmer!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I bought one of these sometime in early 2009. I have used it semi-commercially, and it is the one of the most useful trimmers I have ever used and is one of the best trimmers for the money. During mowing season, I use this trimmer multiple times a week, and use it primarily as a trimmer/edger and I also use a blower attachment for it. It has never quit or stalled and always runs at its peak performance even when doing a lot of strenuous work. I have never done any maintenance on this except adjust the idle speed (which is just a small screw you tighten or loosen) and this trimmer still works just as good as the day I bought it. The fuel tank is large, so you do not have to refill it that often and this trimmer consumes a small amount of gas (40:1 gas to oil-mix ratio). When it runs, it sounds good and powerful and is fun to rev sometimes. This is one of the best trimmers I have owned, and since I only paid less than $100, this trimmer was a good deal also.
Wondering
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
Still testing- used four times – disappointed you have to pull several times before it starts-the second time I used would not continue running, had to restart several times, may have been caused by me not primming enough- followed instructions. Primmed 10 to 12 times and let run awhile the last time I used it and it did better.

Poulan Pro PP125 17-Inch 25cc 2-Cycle Gas Powered Straight Shaft String Trimmer With Split Shaft
I recently ordered this product thru Amazon.com. It was sold by Warehouse Deals,Inc.
The spark plug was broken when I received the trimmer which is an easy fix. Unfortunately, after replacing the spark plug the engine started right up and sounded great but there was yet another problem. The connection was bad and the trimmer didn’t rotate the line. Ugh….off to a lawn mower repair shop. The amount of trouble was worth it. After one month, I pick up the product that I haven’t even been able to use once yet.
I am not dissatisfied with the product yet because I haven’t even been able to use it. However, I am completely dissatisfied that Warehouse deals would sell such a defective product to the consumer in the first place.
Works great

I purchased this even though some reviews were bad but poulan is a good brand.I bought the weedeater edger and pole saw attachment I used all 3 and am extremly impressed with the pole saw I cut 6″ limbs with no problem all I did was put the gas oil mix in and she fired right up and she runs great I also added motorkote to the gas to extend the life of it I have no issues with this I can only give it 5 stars.
excellent product. Fast shipping and handling from Amazon

I have had this product for more than a month. It worked right out of the box. Its idle speed is very stable with low noise. It is important to me since my neighborhood is kind of quiet. The only drawback for this as well as other straight shaft models is that it is little bit heavy. Otherwise, it is perfect.
Don’t waste your money on this product!

Having read many bad reviews about this product but I did not believe so I gave it a try…now I have to pay the price for that. The one of mine has the same problems as you can read in many reviews. I just don’t want to say anything more because this thing is useless…more over Amazon will not let you return on this product!!! So beware of it!
Good in concept, but lacks quality
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
The Good: Great concept to have interchangabe attachments. It cost way less (initially) to get this unit plus a few attachments versus buying everything separate. The pull start was relatively easy and never took more than a few pulls.
The Bad: I purchased this unit and used it about once or twice a week during the summer to blow off the drive after mowing and to periodically edge, and use the line trimmer around the edge of the property. In the fall, I used the unit twice to blow leaves. In all, I would have to estimate I had only about 20 to 30 hours of engine run time on the unit. During the second blowing of the leaves, after about 3 minutes of use, the unit started to bog down and then quickly stopped. I attempted to restart, but the motor had completely seized. I let the unit cool for a day and tried again to no avail. I contacted Poulan who directed me to a local servicer (who was very easy to work with).
He said he had to contact Poulan to see if they wanted to replace the unit or have him repair the existing one (since it was well within the 2 year warranty). Poulan asked him to disassemble my engine to determine if there was signs of excessive heat, indicating that I had used an improper fuel/oil mixture (which I hadn’t and was irritated that they wanted to pay their servicer to prove me wrong versus just honoring the warranty to begin with). They finally agreed to the unit. The servicer then started to rebuild the unit and found additional parts “melted” in the clutch area that he hadn’t found during the motor tear down. He again contacted Poulan who finally issued a replacement unit but would not offer a full 2 years on the warranty for the new model (only what was left on my original warranty).
The servicer also explained that gas powered trimmers like these are rated for a certain # of hours of runtime before they begin to fail. This particular model was only rated at 50 hours. So for my usage, it is likely to “expire” after 2 years – right on time with the warranty to expire. The servicer indicated other brands like Echo have a 300 hour engine life. Of course they come with a larger price tag.
Bottom line: Be wary of the warranty and expected usage. If you aren’t going to use it that often, or extended periods of time, this unit will probably do you fine. I’m still debating what I’m going to do when the replacement finally dies and is out of warranty. The options are to buy a new Poulan interchangable trimmer so I can continue to re-use my existing attachments every 2 years ($120 roughly), or to invest in something like Echo equipment, which are more expensive and I’d have to buy 3 units to replace this one. Tough call.
As a side note, from what I understand, several manufacturers use the same engine. I can’t verify, but my old Craftsman convertible trimmer (which used the same attachments) had an identical engine (I think) and I had similar issues with it after a couple years.
Works like it should

I wasn’t too familiar with Poulan products, so I was a little apprehensive. Used it about 5 times, works like it should. It starts on the third pull on a cold start. It has plenty of power to do my yard clean up.
Best I’ve Ever Owned
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This is by far the best trimmer I’ve ever owned. Not only does it start quick, but it’s extremely powerful. I bought the brush cutting attachment as well, which has been extremely effective for trimming branches on small trees in my yard. Thanks Poulan!
Excellent deal – Gas to Oil ratio concerns
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
My Poulan Pro pp125 arrived quickly and has worked great! It starts easily, idles perfectly, and with the Tanaka Quiet line I bought at Amazon it cuts really well. I live in Hawai`i on 2 acres and am using it to cut the Guinea Grass which is 4 feet high and quite tough, but the trimmer is doing the job. I thought I would need a brush cutter, but that isn’t the case. I think the Poulan Pro pp125 is an excellent value, and with free shipping a great deal!
I bought the following items at Amazon along with the Poulan Pro pp125:
Tanaka 746570 Quiet Trimmer Line, .095-Inch x 285′
Tanaka Perfect Mix 2-Stroke Oil 6.4 oz. Bottle – 6 Pack #700207
Dewalt DPG55-11C Clear Anti-Fog Protective Safety Glasses with Dual-Injected Rubber Frame and Temples
Before buying the pp125 I read all the reviews, which I found quite helpful. What I found was that the negative reviews were mainly from people that had problems with the engine stalling when accelerating the engine. The one star review titled “Not as Good as I Hoped” by Araxiel is the one that got me thinking. In it he says “A worker who was doing repairs on a neighbor’s house comes over and tells me that my problem with stalling is that my oil/gas mixture has too much oil.” In a Comment he wrote “Update: I took the advice of the worker who recommended adding some gas to the tank to reduce the percent of oil in the mix. I put in about 4 ounces and lo and behold, the trimmer ran perfectly.” He now has the pp125 rated 4 stars!
I am using the Tanaka Perfect Mix oil at a 50:1 ratio as recommended and it works great. On the Tanaka website, in their FAQ section, I found that the gas to oil ratio should be what the oil manufacturer has listed, and not what the manufacturer of the engine has listed. A part of one of the answers has “there are 16:1, 25:1, 32:1, 40:1 42:1, 50:1, etc. However, if you analyzed these oils, you’d find very similar amounts of the actual ingredients needed to provide the life allowing lubricity (even at these odd ratios).” This means if you take 50:1 oil and mix it at 40:1 there will be too much oil in the mix, so we need to make sure we are mixing the oil and gas as the oil manufacturer lists. I don’t know what oil Araxiel was using but I think this is very important information!
I contacted Poulan Pro and asked about the oil ratio and received the response “Any good two stroke air cooled not water cool will work. 40/1 is OK.” I wrote back providing the link to the Tanaka FAQ I have listed above and also wrote “A 40:1 ratio when using Tanaka Perfect Mix is not appropriate.” He replied with “Thanks I will send this on to the engr. group.”
Hope your not in a hurry to get wacking weeds.

Our first spin trimmer/weed wacker was the WeedEater. I think it was by Homelite. Small CC. Single and easy restring. It lasted forever and always started easy, first pull.
Then bought a Ryobi double string. Bigger CC. It was hard to start from day one. Finally died.
Shopped around looking for different brands at Home D and Lowes. Read reviews of different models and decided on this one. Came in mail. Read instructions 3 times. Put fresh fuel in. Tried to start it for 15 minutes without luck. Not happy.
Called Amazon. Can’t return anything with gas. Had to call Poulan. Took it to local service. Waited two weeks for repair authorization and carburetor adjustments. Picked it up and it started second pull.
Winters here. Have to wait to spring for the endurance test.
easy to use, easy to assemble, easy to add string

I am 45 years old, 5’3″ and live on 7.5 acres by myself. I had some heavy duty weeds to attack and this works great. I have no complaints about the string trimmer…starts and runs without an issue. I did run out of string after about an hour, but I just had to pop the top off and pull some new pieces out…it had just worn out to the core, not actually run out. The string is really heavy duty, double ply twisted material which is perfect for my situation.
Great Trimmer!

My 10 yr old Weed-eater finally failed me when the fuel line began leaking and I couldn’t find a replacement tank, I figured it didn’t ‘owe’ me anything and shopped for trimmers. This one semed to be rated very highly and was a reasonable price. I am so happy I bought this as it works just great. Arrived in good condition and worked fine on the first pull, which is an easy pull when I compare it to my old trimmer or some other gas yard tools I have. Nice feature. Hot and cold starts are fine, one or two pulls. Line feed feature seems to work well and haven’t had to take anything apart to untangle line, etc. Also got the edger attachment and it works very well also. I would buy this again without hesitation.
Broke on Second use. Poor Customer Service when I tried to get it repaired.
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
The “Tap-and-go” head on my weed eater quit working on my second use. I have to take the bottom apart and pull line out, then put it back together, to continue using the unit. I called customer service and the manufacturer. They recommended a service center and told me the tap “Tap-and-go” head was not covered under warranty. The customer service rep and manufacturer rep also surprised me by being rude. BOTTOM LINE – THIS MODEL BREAKS AND THEY WON’T FIX IT.
Follow up on review– This item is not elidgible for return through Amazon. If you insist on buying this product go to a local store with a return policy.
Glad I bought it

This was a replacement for a 15+ year-old trimmer. It is much more powerful and stands up better to different positions. I’m very happy I bought and am considering purchasing a couple of the attachments.
So far so good!!!

I ordered this weed trimmer on 9/1/09 and received it on 9/2/09 with free prime shipping. AMAZON ROCKS. Anyway, i opened the box and put the weed trimmer together-very easy.I then tightened ALL visible bolts/screws….due to the fact that i believe NO manufacturer has a good qc dept. I filled with pre-mix and it started on the 4th pull, but bogged down when throttled. Luckily i read a previous review that explained how to re-tune the carb. So i used a plastic crimp connect that fit perfectly around the hi and lo tune knobs and adjusted. It runs like a champ now, hopefully it will hold up longer than the Homelite Mighty 26ss-the worst weed trimmer ever.

I purchased this for my son who is taking care of my house in Illinois that I am tryin to sell. I went back home to do some work on the house, and used the trimmer while I was there. It had plenty of power, started ok, ran good, and was doing a good job. The only thing I saw, was the guard let a lot of stones, and sticks to fly back on your legs. You have to wear long pants when using this product. It seemed over all the trimmer was doing a good job.
Great trimmer for the price

After owning many trimmers, both 2-cycle and 4-cycle costing up to $300, that have failed me over the years, I have a new philosophy on buying string trimmers: they seem to be a disposable tool whose small engines can’t survive with the ethanol-blended gasoline (E10) that is prevalent these days. My new approach is to buy a cheap trimmer and hope to get 2-4 years out of it before it kicks the bucket. I purchased this trimmer two summers ago for $99 and it has served me well and doesn’t seem willing to give up its useful life anytime soon. It still starts within 1-3 pulls and runs great! It works with all my attachments that I’ve accrued from all my other trimmers and the Poulan 2-cycle engine produces less smoke and fumes than the others I’ve owned. I’d definitely recommend this product.
works well
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This is my first trimmer – I have always avoided them in the past because they are usually so noisy. This one is a breeze to put together, starts easily and works well. I also bought a few of its attachments, which are more mixed and probably not worthwhile. But for just trimming grass under bushes etc its fine.
Pretty neat!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I just got mine in a few hours ago. Seems a little heaver than that piece of junk I was using. Happily, the ‘tap-and-go’ unit….down at the bottom….doesn’t have a screw on lid like the others I’ve used. It snaps together and there is no chance of doing it wrong–it only has two holes to line up on and their both the same size. Also, unlike those screw on models, this one doesn’t have in black letter writing (on black plastic) telling you which holes to line up and which direction to wind the string–they always wear off.
Anyway, after mixing my fuel (just a little more gas than they recommended because of the other reviewer) I got it cranked in half a dozen easy pulls (I think I didn’t push the primer button but three times). So it cranked up, I let it run for about ten seconds.
I started remembering the instructions telling me to let it warm up a minute…then I heard ‘that’ other side of me saying “Put some juice to it Oldtechno and let’s see what she’ll do!” Well, there’s no doubt which won out. I gave it the juice and it ran just fine. Futhermore; the rpms are lower than on my older piece of junk (probably to keep the engine from wearing out quicker), and that’s just fine with me. BUT…because of these lower rpms I can’t recommend this unit for ‘country’ life. It should do just fine around any ‘kept’ yard…but if you want to clear brush, you ‘might’ reconsider.
All in all, I’m happy with this unit–especially since the tap-and-go end snaps together instead of screwing together. It is a little heavier–I’m fine with that. It is a ‘straight shaft’–great!(much better control in a straight shaft). Fair size gas tank, flat on the bottom so it doesn’t fall over, all the front of the motor is covered with plastic (no chance of a burn) good! Easy to start–good. I still haven’t wound any string in it yet…so I have no comment. I will admit, since the spool you wind your string in is walled off–there is less chance of the string tightening up from that ‘tap-and-going’ and refusing to feed string out. I’ve never had one like this…but I can tell it should fix that problem. Finally; I’ve never had a splitshaft before…so I have no comment.
I don’t think you could get much better for the price (so far as I know)
bye!
GREAT STRING TRIMMER! POULAN PP125 MODEL
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
JUST RECIEVED THIS PP125 POULAN TRIMMER YESTERDAY. I WAS WORRIED ABOUT THE COUNTER CLOCK WISE DIRECTION.{I DIDNT KNOW THAT UNTIL AFTER ORDERING}.
IT IS VERY LITTLE DIFFERENCE. I PROBABLY WOULD NOT HAVE NOTICED FOR A WHILE IF I DIDNT READ ABOUT IT.
MY FRIEND HAS A CRAFTSMAN{POULAN ALSO}30CC. HE DIDNT NOTICE IT WAS COUNTER CLOCKWISE TILL I TOLD HIM. HAD IT FOR 8 MO.LOL.. EASY TO ADJUST TO BECAUSE THIS TRIMMER HAS SO MUCH POWER IT CUTS ANYTHING IN ANY DIRECTION. DONT LET THE LOWER 25CC HP MOTOR FOOL YOU. ITS GOT ABOUT AS MUCH POWER AS MY FRIENDS 30CC HP TRIMMER. HIS IS JUST HEAVIER. THIS IS FOUR POUNDS HEAVIER THAN THE FEATHER LIGHT WEEDEATER. ALSO A TALLER PERSON MIGHT WANT A LONGER SHAFT ON IT. I’M 5’9. IT WOULD BE JUST RIGHT IF IT WAS ABOUT 6 IN. LONGER. A LITTLE SHORT!!
THIS TRIMMER IS LISTED AS A LE STAINLESS ON POULAN PRO DEALERS WEBSITES? NOT SURE WHAT PARTS ARE STAINLESS?? OR LE EITHER? ALL N ALL ITS A GREAT TRIMMER. STARTS VERY EASY. RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX. I HAVE 7 DISCS BAD,TWO FAILED BACK SURGERYS. IF I CAN HANDLE THIS ANYONE SHOULD BE ABLE TOO. I’M GOING TO ORDER THE {TRIMMER ASSIST} STRAP FOR THIS JUST TO EASE UP ON THE WEIGHT.
MOST PEOPLE WOULD NOT NEED THIS WITH IT. 13 POUNDS IS NOT BAD FOR A TRIMMER. IT HAS THE DURACHROME CYLINDER FOR LONG LIFE.{I GOOGLED DURACHROME}.ITS THE STEEL USED IN FARM EQUIPMENT.ACTUALLY POLISHES IT- SELF TO MIRROR FINNISH WHEN FRICTION IS APPLIED. {GOOD STEEL} IT WILL BE GREAT FOR ANY HOME OWNER. AGAIN I’LL REPEAT MYSELF: IF YOUR 6FT TALL GET A DIFFERENT MODEL. IT WILL HAVE YOU BENDING OVER: GREAT DEAL ON A LE STAINLESS TRIMMER..WHAT EVER THAT MEANS?
Poulan Pro PP125 Gas Trimmer
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I bought mine after getting aggravated with my older purchase. A Troy Built. It would not start regularly and I was at wits end. I read all the reviews I could and found this one to be the most recommended. I received it and it was easy to put together and started right up. I also bought attachments for it. I bought the edger and the Brush Cutter. Changing the attachments is a snap. The Brush Cutter also comes with a sling type harness that is great. Takes the load off your hands and is good and balanced. This should come with the base unit.I used it three times in the first week and then I had trouble with the pull string. It would not retract. With effort I was able to manually insert the string to allow me to finish the job. No amount of coaxing could get the string to retract. The spring inside appeared to be stuck. I called Amazon and once I explained my problem, was told I would be sent a replacement. Many thanks to Amazon for there customer care. I received the replacement in four days and have been using it twice a week for the last seven weeks without any other problems. I usually wind my own spool and this one is really easy. Just cut a 15′ section of line and as you wind it it goes into its own slot. Bump line works great and this helps it. The stuck string is the only thing keeping me from giving it 5 stars, but that could have been a fluke. Needless to say, Amazon took care of that and I am extremely happy with my trimmer.
